De nombreuses zones urbaines du Ghana sont fortement polluées par les déchets plastiques, et la municipalité de Bolgatanga ne fait pas exception. L’incapacité de l’Assemblée municipale de Bolgatanga et de Zoomlion Ghana Limited à s’attaquer au problème nécessite la participation du grand public, les ménages, en tant que sous-ensemble de la population, consommant davantage de produits en plastique et générant par conséquent d’énormes quantités de déchets. Compte tenu de cela, l’étude a été menée avec les objectifs suivants : déterminer la situation en matière de déchets plastiques, identifier les pratiques et les défis des ménages en matière de gestion des déchets plastiques, ainsi que la voie à suivre pour réduire les déchets plastiques. L’étude, basée sur un questionnaire, a été menée dans 12 zones électorales sélectionnées au hasard. 81,67 % des ménages estimaient que la situation en matière de déchets plastiques était mauvaise. Les pratiques de gestion des déchets ménagers identifiées comprenaient le stockage temporaire des déchets dans des poubelles, des boîtes, des seaux et de grands sacs en polyéthylène.
