Il ciclo idrologico sta fluttuando selvaggiamente a causa della produzione di gas serra che causano variazioni di intensità, durata e frequenza degli eventi piovosi.Individuare gli effetti potenziali del cambiamento climatico e acclimatarli è un modo per ridurre la suscettibilità delle regioni. Poiché le caratteristiche delle precipitazioni sono spesso utilizzate per la pianificazione e la progettazione di vari progetti di risorse idriche. È fondamentale rivedere e aggiornare le caratteristiche delle precipitazioni per le situazioni climatiche future. Questo studio mira a creare nuove curve IDF del bacino superiore di Nyabarongo utilizzando la formula di riduzione empirica del Dipartimento meteorologico indiano (IMD). Il metodo di distribuzione del valore estremo di Umbel è stato utilizzato per sviluppare le curve e le equazioni IDF. È stato rivelato che l’intensità delle piogge diminuisce con l’aumento della durata delle precipitazioni. Inoltre, una pioggia di una data durata avrà un’intensità maggiore se il suo periodo di ritorno è grande. In altre parole, per una pioggia di una data durata, le piogge di maggiore intensità in quella durata sono più rare delle piogge di minore intensità.
