Le processus de coulée des métaux ferreux et non ferreux utilise des moules, généralement composés de sable, pour donner forme à la pièce. Selon le processus de fabrication du moule (à base principalement de sable vert et utilisant de la résine phénolique ou alkyde, entre autres), le sable peut contenir des substances qui empêchent son dépôt direct dans l’environnement, et il est le plus souvent classé selon la norme ABNT NBR 10004:2004 comme déchet de classe IIA - Non inerte. La réutilisation de ce déchet est limitée, car ses caractéristiques changent considérablement après utilisation. D’autre part, l’utilisation (réutilisation) de ce sous-produit dans la construction civile est une alternative techniquement viable; cependant, l’effet de son ajout doit être évalué, notamment d’un point de vue mécanique et environnemental. Ainsi, l’objectif de cet ouvrage est d’étudier l’effet de l’utilisation des résidus de sable de fonderie dans la fabrication d’artefacts en ciment.
