O apodrecimento dos frutos da brinjal causado por Alternaria alternata , Colletotrichum melongenae e Phomopsis vexans é uma das doenças importantes da brinjal no norte de Karnataka. Os presentes estudos sobre a podridão dos frutos da brinjal foram realizados no Departamento de Patologia Vegetal, COH, Bagalkot, durante os anos de 2013-14 a 2014-15. A couve-brinco (Solanum melongena L.) é uma das principais culturas hortícolas solanáceas da Índia, a seguir ao tomate e à batata. A podridão dos frutos da Brinjal, causada por Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler, Colletotrichum melongenae e Phomopsis vexans, é uma doença importante que causa graves problemas a esta cultura nas proximidades do distrito de Bagalkot. Verificou-se que os frutos de brinjal infectados com a podridão dos frutos por Alternaria produziam sintomas típicos, tais como manchas pequenas, circulares, castanho-escuras e necróticas, que mais tarde se tornaram castanho-escuras a castanho-pretas. O agente patogénico foi identificado como Alternaria alternata . Enquanto que os frutos infectados com Colletotrichum melongenae apresentam pequenas manchas circulares que coalescem para formar grandes manchas elípticas nos frutos e nas folhas. Mais tarde, os agentes patogénicos foram identificados como Colletotrichum melogenae e Phomopsis vexans, respetivamente.
