Para promover a biodiversidade e a proteção do ambiente, é importante a utilização de práticas agrícolas sustentáveis. A Áustria, conhecida pela sua elevada proporção de explorações agrícolas biológicas, tem potencial para melhorar ainda mais o controlo biológico das pragas e a agrobiodiversidade. Este trabalho realizou uma investigação social qualitativa que incluiu entrevistas com peritos de partes interessadas, como agricultores, associações, investigadores, autoridades e ONG. O objetivo era identificar desafios e oportunidades na implementação do controlo biológico de pragas.Os resultados indicam que uma maior utilização do controlo biológico de pragas pode reduzir a dependência dos pesticidas, proteger o ambiente, melhorar a resiliência e reduzir os riscos para a saúde. No entanto, os obstáculos incluem processos de aprovação morosos, atitudes dos agricultores, subsídios insuficientes e dúvidas sobre a sua eficácia. Para resolver estes problemas, recomendam-se reformas jurídicas, incentivos financeiros e seminários educativos para encorajar uma maior adoção do controlo biológico de pragas.
