L’obésité chez les enfants et les adolescents est un défi pour la société brésilienne. Cette étude, dont la méthodologie est essentiellement qualitative, analyse les relations possibles entre le surpoids et l’obésité dans le processus d’enseignement et d’apprentissage de la danse éducative chez les enfants et les adolescents. Elle utilise la triangulation des méthodes comme procédure de collecte des données, développée en trois étapes. Les instruments utilisés sont les suivants : évaluation anthropométrique, entretiens individuels semi-structurés, intervention éducative, observation des participants, journal de terrain, échelle d’évaluation de l’insatisfaction corporelle et évaluation de la perception de l’image corporelle à l’aide de silhouettes. L’étude s’est déroulée dans 18 écoles publiques municipales de Fortaleza, dans l’État du Ceará. Les personnes interrogées étaient 557 élèves des deux sexes qui pratiquaient la danse dans le cadre du programme Mais Educação, âgés de six à dix-sept ans, obèses et non obèses. Les données ont été analysées en fonction de la nature de chaque instrument. Le programme SPSS (2003) a été utilisé pour les analyses statistiques descriptives des données quantitatives, et l’interprétation qualitative et l’analyse de contenu, comme le préconise Bardin (2004), pour les enregistrements qualitatifs.
