Este estudo aborda a questão de saber se o treino de sprint pode contribuir para ganhos de força nas extremidades inferiores. Para além dos testes de sprint com barreiras leves, foram utilizados para avaliação a força excêntrica dos flexores da perna com a prancha de isquiotibiais e a força máxima incluindo a força explosiva dos extensores da perna numa prensa de pernas. Os dados necessários foram recolhidos no centro desportivo de Rif. No total, foram apresentados e analisados neste estudo os dados de 25 indivíduos (média: idade 26,3 anos, peso 72,9 kg). Houve um pré-teste e um pós-teste, separados por 6 semanas. Os sujeitos foram divididos em dois grupos, sendo que o grupo de intervenção (n=13) realizou treino de sprint duas vezes por semana. O grupo de controlo (n=12) manteve as suas actividades normais. Os resultados mostram que todas as variáveis foram significativamente aumentadas pelo treino de sprint. As maiores melhorias foram registadas na força dos isquiotibiais. O estudo confirma claramente que não só os atletas de competição, mas também os atletas amadores e recreativos podem beneficiar do treino de sprint. Com base nos resultados deste estudo, o treino de sprint pode ser considerado como um treino de força específico do desporto para atletas.
