Por tropicalização do mar Mediterrâneo entende-se o processo de estabelecimento de espécies alóctones provenientes de zonas tropicais ou subtropicais, frequentemente dominantes e que podem suplantar as espécies indígenas pré-existentes na zona mediterrânica. As espécies exóticas podem também competir pela conquista de alimento e território, alterando o equilíbrio natural com a consequente redução da biodiversidade. O aquecimento global desempenha um papel crucial na penetração, disseminação e fixação de espécies não indígenas no mar Mediterrâneo. Este fenómeno é progressivamente interessante em todas as regiões mediterrânicas e tem muitas consequências negativas para o sector das pescas do Mediterrâneo.
