O tomate (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller) é um dos vegetais frescos mais importantes e mais consumidos do mundo. O tomate pertence à família Solanaceae, também chamada de família das solanáceas. Outros membros desta família são a beringela, o pimento e a batata, etc. É uma das culturas mais importantes do Paquistão.
