Face aux progrès de l’agriculture, aux impacts environnementaux qui mettent en péril la santé humaine et à la crise du modèle agricole moderne, des discussions émergent sur de nouvelles tendances de production durables, connues sous le nom d’agriculture durable. Elles se caractérisent par le fait qu’elles sont écologiquement correctes, économiquement viables, socialement justes et adaptables. Il s’agit de propositions stimulantes pour produire des aliments en harmonie avec l’homme et l’environnement. Dans la région semi-aride, l’adoption de pratiques agro-écologiques est importante étant donné les niveaux élevés de dégradation socio-environnementale, causés principalement par des pratiques agricoles qui ne sont pas conformes aux caractéristiques de la région. Il est donc important de diffuser des politiques de coexistence qui garantissent une meilleure adaptation aux régions semi-arides. L’adoption de pratiques agricoles agroécologiques dans les régions semi-arides permet une gestion adéquate des ressources de la Caatinga, favorisant la durabilité socio-environnementale, l’augmentation de la productivité agricole et la valorisation des petits agriculteurs.
