Dorstenia è un genere della famiglia delle Moraceae, conosciuto con il nome popolare di 'carapiá' o 'caapiá'. L’obiettivo era quello di effettuare studi tassonomici e di conservazione della Dorstenia presente nello Stato di San Paolo. Questo lavoro include illustrazioni e chiavi di determinazione delle specie. Il genere si distingue dagli altri della famiglia per essere un’erba con infiorescenze uniche chiamate 'cenanthus'. Esistono circa 150 specie in tutto il mondo, 37 delle quali si trovano in Brasile. Nello stato di San Paolo sono state trovate 11 specie, la maggior parte delle quali abita luoghi ombrosi e umidi.
