Isabel Valdés Cifuentes überprüft in einem europäischen Vergleich, ob prekär Beschäftigte über eine schlechtere soziale Einbettung verfügen als Personen in regulärer Beschäftigung. Die Autorin zieht soziologische und sozialpsychologische Theorien heran und untersucht diese mithilfe quantitativer Mehrebenenanalysen. Die ermittelten Befunde bestätigen die Annahme einer schlechteren Einbettung prekär Beschäftigter für die meisten EU-Länder. Die nationalen Beschäftigungs- und Sozialpolitiken können in begrenztem Maße helfen, die sozialen Folgen prekärer Beschäftigung abzufedern. Isabel Valdés Cifuentes zieht daher den Schluss, dass es aus sozialpolitischer Sicht sinnvoller erscheint, die Entstehung und Verbreitung prekärer Beschäftigung zu bekämpfen anstatt rückwirkend deren Folgen. ​
