Der steigende Bedarf an Reis in Nigeria stellt für die Bundesregierung nach wie vor eine Belastung dar. Während die Frist für das Verbot der Gesamteinfuhr von Reis im Jahr 2015 näher rückte und verstrichen ist, steht der Reisanbau in Nigeria noch immer vor zahlreichen Herausforderungen. Diese Herausforderungen reichen von der geringen Vielfalt der angebauten Pflanzen (Reis) bis hin zu unzureichenden Infrastrukturen im Anbaugebiet. Nigeria verfügt über eine reiche landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche von schätzungsweise 71,2 Millionen Hektar, wovon 34 Millionen Hektar bewirtschaftet werden. Doch trotz all dieser Möglichkeiten klafft eine beträchtliche Lücke zwischen dem geschätzten Nahrungsmittelangebot und der Nachfrage nach diesen Nahrungsmitteln. Aufgrund dieses Mangels importiert Nigeria wichtige Nahrungsmittel, von denen Reis keine Ausnahme darstellt. Diese riesigen Importe sind immer noch ein großer Verlust für unsere lokale Industrie. Vor dem Hintergrund dieser hässlichen Entwicklung und des ständig wachsenden Bedarfs an Reis wollen wir die Herausforderungen und Perspektiven der lokalen Reisproduktion von Adani untersuchen.
