Este estudo investigou os fatores que influenciam o desempenho dos alunos em biologia nas escolas secundárias do distrito de Borama. Um fator foi definido como um constituinte ou elemento que produz determinados efeitos ou resultados. O desempenho foi definido como a realização de uma tarefa determinada, medida em relação a padrões pré-estabelecidos de precisão e completude. A biologia é uma disciplina fundamental na educação global. Apesar das evidências de baixo desempenho, os fatores reais responsáveis por isso ainda não haviam sido investigados. Guiado pela Teoria da Contingência, o estudo utilizou um inquérito transversal, numa amostra aleatória estratificada de 365 alunos e 27 professores de biologia de 16 escolas secundárias do distrito de Borama. Os dados foram recolhidos através de um questionário em fevereiro de 2016 e analisados utilizando o método de regressão simples. O estudo estabeleceu que o pessoal, [F (1, 363) = 4,059, p = 0,000, R = 0,474, R2 adj. = 0,169]; recursos físicos, [F (1, 363) = 687,522, p = 0,000, R = 0,890, R2 adj. = 0,654]; e as características dos alunos, [F (1, 363) = 11,550, p = 0,000, R = 0,900, R2 adj. = 0,810] tiveram uma influência significativa no desempenho dos alunos em biologia nas escolas secundárias do distrito de Borama.
