Die Bauindustrie in Afrika ist bekannt für eine hohe Ausfallquote bei Projekten, die zum Teil auf die Anwendung ungeeigneter Beschaffungsstrategien zurückzuführen ist. Diese und andere Herausforderungen haben dazu geführt, dass europäische und asiatische Länder die integrierte Beschaffungsstrategie eingeführt haben. In Ghana werden über 90 % der Projekte nach der traditionellen „Design-Bid-Build'-Beschaffungsstrategie (DBB) vergeben. Dieses Buch gibt einen Überblick über die Literatur zu den in Ghana angewandten Beschaffungssystemen, die Entstehung des „Design-and-Build'-Beschaffungssystems (DB) in Europa sowie dessen Vor- und Nachteile im Vergleich zum traditionellen DBB-Beschaffungssystem, das in Afrika zum Einsatz kommt. Auf der Grundlage ethnografischer Feldstudien untersucht das Buch die Bereitschaft der afrikanischen Bauindustrie, das DB-System als Alternative zum DBB-System für zukünftige Projekte einzuführen. Die Herausforderung ergibt sich jedoch aus der Tatsache, dass über 90 % der in Afrika durchgeführten Projekte direkt von der Zentralregierung finanziert werden. Die Frage lautet nun: Wie bereit ist der wichtigste Akteur der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit in Afrika für die Einführung des DB-Systems?
