Uno studio sulla reazione della popolazione agli effetti della disconnessione urbana è stato condotto a Kinshasa (RD Congo). Le famiglie di Kinshasa tra il 1990 e il 2000, scosse da una crisi multiforme causata dagli effetti della distruzione dell’economia dovuta al mancato rispetto delle risoluzioni della Conferenza Nazionale Sovrana, alla guerra di liberazione e al degrado delle vie di approvvigionamento alimentare della capitale, hanno incluso la produzione agricola urbana tra le soluzioni per combattere i gravi problemi di salute dei loro membri. Un’indagine su un campione di 201 appezzamenti del Comune di Limete, su diversi agricoltori urbani e strutture di supporto all’agricoltura, integrata da un’indagine nutrizionale sui bambini da 0 a 5 anni e sulle loro madri, ha dimostrato che con 19 specie di ortaggi e 47.000 alberi di 18 specie di frutta, questa popolazione produceva 33,27 tonnellate di ortaggi e 4.087,00 tonnellate di frutta all’anno.
