Foi realizado um estudo sobre a reação da população aos efeitos da desconexão urbana em Kinshasa (RD Congo). Os agregados familiares de Kinshasa entre 1990 e 2000, abalados por uma crise multiforme causada pelos efeitos da destruição da economia devido ao não cumprimento das resoluções da Conferência Nacional Soberana, da guerra de libertação e da degradação das vias de abastecimento alimentar da capital, incluíram a produção agrícola urbana entre as soluções para combater os graves problemas de saúde dos seus membros. Um inquérito a uma amostra de 201 parcelas da Comuna de Limete, a vários agricultores urbanos e a estruturas de apoio à agricultura, complementado por um inquérito nutricional a crianças dos 0 aos 5 anos e às suas mães, mostrou que, com 19 espécies hortícolas e 47.000 árvores de 18 espécies frutícolas, esta população produzia 33,27 toneladas de hortícolas e 4.087,00 toneladas de frutas por ano.
