Il Cerrado è il secondo bioma brasiliano più grande, con una grande biodiversità di fauna e flora. La conoscenza della fisiologia di frutti ancora sconosciuti alla popolazione, provenienti da biomi fino ad allora considerati poveri, è estremamente importante, poiché è attraverso questi studi che vengono scoperte e introdotte nella società nuove fonti nutrizionali. Oltre al contributo nutrizionale, lo studio di queste specie rende possibile la conservazione del loro habitat naturale, che spesso viene sostituito da pascoli per il bestiame o da grandi monocolture come soia, canna da zucchero e caffè. Si preserva solo ciò che è conosciuto. Questo lavoro porta alla luce della società due dei tanti frutti esistenti nel bioma del Cerrado, che presentano alti livelli di nutrienti essenziali per l’alimentazione umana, valutandone l’evoluzione dall’antesi (apertura del fiore) fino al punto ottimale di raccolta.
