Von der Auswahl bis zur Pflege muss bei der Verwendung im Landschaftsbau sowie bei der Anpflanzung auf Plätzen, in Gärten und in Wäldern auf die Farbe der Blätter und die Blühfähigkeit geachtet werden, um sie für Passanten attraktiv zu machen. Derzeit wird in Großstädten darauf geachtet, Schäden an der Entwässerung, an der Verkabelung und Kollateralschäden an den Bürgersteigen zu vermeiden, so dass dieses Dokument ein Leitfaden ist, um die in Frage kommenden Arten genauer zu kennen und gute Entscheidungen bei der Gestaltung von Grünflächen in städtischen Gebieten zu treffen.
