A ideia principal deste estudo é avaliar diferentes chalconas como antioxidantes para o biodiesel de girassol. A transesterificação do óleo de girassol foi realizada por catálise básica assistida por ultrassom, obtendo-se uma conversão de 98,5 %. Os parâmetros físico-químicos (viscosidade, valores de acidez, iodo e saponificação) foram avaliados para determinar a qualidade do biodiesel. O perfil de ácidos gordos foi determinado por cromatografia gasosa com deteção por ionização de chama (GC-FID). Onze chalconas com diferentes substituintes foram sintetizadas, caracterizadas por infravermelho por transformada de Fourier (FT-IR) e cromatografia gasosa acoplada à espectrometria de massa (GC-MS), e as suas purezas foram determinadas por GC-MS e ponto de fusão. A avaliação da atividade antioxidante destas chalconas foi realizada utilizando os métodos DPPH e quimioluminescência. As chalconas que apresentaram a maior atividade antioxidante em testes in vitro foram adicionadas ao biodiesel, cuja estabilidade oxidativa foi medida em Rancimat.
