Diese Studie ist Teil des Forschungsprojekts „Undergraduate Nursing Education in Pregnancy, Labour and Birth for Public School Students from the 1950s to the 1980s'. Hier wird der zeitliche Rahmen der Jahrzehnte von den 1950er bis zu den 1980er Jahren in Bezug auf die Krankenpflegeausbildung in der Neugeborenenpflege vorgestellt. Der Wunsch der Forscher, mehr über den Unterricht in der Neugeborenenpflege zu erfahren, entsprang ihrer Erfahrung als Krankenschwestern in Geburtshilfezentren und der Erkenntnis, dass die tägliche Pflegepraxis zum Zeitpunkt der Geburt stark vom biomedizinischen Modell geleitet wird und sich auf Routinen und Interventionen konzentriert. Es ist festzustellen, dass in diesem Bereich der Pflege oft wahllos Technologien eingesetzt werden, ohne die Ganzheitlichkeit und Individualität der Pflege zu berücksichtigen.
