​Patricia M. Schütte-Bestek beleuchtet erstmals unter einer organisationssoziologischen Perspektive die Entwicklung des Bundesgrenzschutzes zur Bundespolizei. Ihre Analyse basiert auf Experteninterviews mit Organisationsangehörigen und umfasst den Zeitraum ab der Organisationsgründung im Jahr 1951 bis 2012. Im Zentrum ihrer Arbeit steht die Annahme, dass die Entwicklung der organisationalen Legitimität einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Überlebensfähigkeit der genannten Polizeiorganisation im Rahmen der mehr als 60jährigen Organisationsgeschichte leistete. Die Ergebnisse der empirischen Untersuchung liefern Hinweise auf drei maßgebliche Entwicklungslinien, die dies widerspiegeln.
