Gli artropodi domestici e strutturali comprendono diverse specie di insetti e due specie di acari. Tra gli insetti, scarafaggi, formiche, pesciolini d’argento, scarafaggi dei tappeti, tarme dei vestiti e psocidi sono i parassiti domestici più comuni, mentre le termiti sono i principali parassiti strutturali delle abitazioni e delle aree circostanti. Altri parassiti domestici sono lo scarafaggio della sigaretta, lo scarafaggio della farmacia, la tarma del tabacco, lo scarafaggio del prosciutto, lo scarafaggio del formaggio e gli acari del formaggio e del prosciutto. Tuttavia, questi parassiti si presentano raramente e hanno un’importanza economica minore. Di conseguenza, la ricerca sul controllo di questi parassiti con prodotti di origine vegetale non è stata intrapresa e non è stata inclusa in questo libro. Gli insetti sociali e domestici popolano le abitazioni, soprattutto nelle aree urbane (Robinson, 2005; Masciocchi et al., 2017). Attualmente, questi insetti vengono controllati soprattutto con spray, esche avvelenate e aerosol contenenti abamectina, bifentrin, fipronil, indoxacarb, imidacloprid, clorpirifos, propoxur o clorfenapir. Altre formulazioni presenti sul mercato sono gel, polvere, polvere, pasta e pellet. I parassiti strutturali vengono controllati con vernici ad olio o con la spalmatura di pesticidi a bassissima concentrazione.
