Zu den Haushalts- und Bauschädlingen gehören mehrere Insektenarten und zwei Milbenarten. Unter den Insekten sind Schaben, Ameisen, Silberfischchen, Buchläuse, Teppichkäfer, Kleidermotten und Psociden die häufigsten Haushaltsschädlinge, und Termiten sind die wichtigsten Bauschädlinge in Wohnungen und deren Umgebung. Andere Haushaltsschädlinge sind Zigarettenkäfer, Drogeriekäfer, Tabakmotten, Schinkenkäfer, Käsekäfer sowie Käse- und Schinkenmilben. Diese Schädlinge treten jedoch nur selten auf und sind von geringer wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung. Daher wurde die Bekämpfung dieser Schädlinge mit pflanzlichen Produkten nicht erforscht und nicht in dieses Buch aufgenommen. Schadinsekten im sozialen Bereich und im Haushalt bevölkern Wohnungen, insbesondere in städtischen Gebieten (Robinson, 2005; Masciocchi et al., 2017). Derzeit werden diese Insekten meist mit Sprays, Giftködern und Aerosolen bekämpft, die Abamectin, Bifenthrin, Fipronil, Indoxacarb, Imidacloprid, Chlorpyriphos, Propoxur oder Chlorfenapyr enthalten. Weitere auf dem Markt erhältliche Formulierungen sind Gel, Pulver, Staub, Paste und Pellets. Strukturelle Schädlinge werden mit Ölfarben oder einer Beschichtung von Pestiziden in sehr niedriger Konzentration bekämpft.
