In questo articolo ci proponiamo di analizzare le cause dell’abbandono scolastico nell’EJA (Educazione dei Giovani e degli Adulti). Possiamo citare problemi sociali, politici, professionali, strutturali e istituzionali che sono inadeguati a soddisfare questo pubblico. Per la nostra ricerca, mettiamo in evidenza la relazione affettiva tra insegnanti e studenti come possibile causa dell’abbandono scolastico. Il nostro interesse per questo argomento è nato dalle nostre esperienze in questo campo educativo, motivate dalla curiosità di scoprire le vere cause dell’abbandono dei corsi EJA da parte di studenti giovani e adulti, soprattutto per quanto riguarda l’alfabetizzazione nella città di São João, PE. La ricerca presentata è di natura etnografica e documentaria, in cui analizzeremo la relazione teorica presentata con i documenti forniti dalla scuola e i questionari realizzati con studenti e insegnanti. Nelle analisi, abbiamo riscontrato che tra gli studenti iscritti, il 50% abbandona prima della fine del corso, e tra questi il 15%-25% non è considerato alfabetizzato, concludendo la classe con il 25%-35% di studenti di successo. Abbiamo quindi cercato di individuare le possibili cause di questo abbandono nel rapporto tra insegnanti e studenti.
