L’obiettivo di questo lavoro è calcolare le proprietà di combustione di un motore diesel a quattro tempi (DI) mediante approccio numerico utilizzando il pacchetto CFD ANSYS Fluent e confrontarlo con i risultati sperimentali. Il pacchetto CFD più utilizzato e il software di simulazione ben noto per una varietà di applicazioni ingegneristiche è Fluent. L’analisi sperimentale sarà effettuata su un motore diesel a quattro tempi a compressione variabile per la convalida con soluzioni numeriche. Durante la combustione, sia le valvole di aspirazione che quelle di scarico sono chiuse, quindi viene progettato un modello 3D senza valvole. Viene considerato un iniettore di carburante posizionato centralmente con un modello a settore di 30°, che indica la camera di combustione del motore. Per ridurre il tempo di calcolo, viene meshato solo il settore di 30°. I parametri di combustione come pressione, volume, temperatura e tasso di rilascio di calore influenzano il processo di combustione e il funzionamento del motore.
