Questa ricerca si occupa dell’analfabetismo funzionale nella terza classe della scuola secondaria di secondo grado e delle politiche pubbliche brasiliane volte a questo aspetto. L’obiettivo è stato quello di analizzare il problema attraverso una riflessione critica sulle politiche pubbliche per affrontare questa realtà nel contesto educativo brasiliano, che oggi conta analfabeti funzionali a tutti i livelli di scolarizzazione. In tal senso, questa ricerca concettualizza le politiche pubbliche e l’analfabetismo funzionale; analizza l’analfabetismo funzionale nella scuola superiore, in particolare nella terza classe e, infine, indaga l’analfabetismo funzionale in una scuola pubblica del comune di Santana - Ap. A tal fine, è stata utilizzata una ricerca quali-quantitativa, con questionari applicati agli studenti della terza classe della scuola superiore e l’analisi del contenuto come tecnica di analisi. I risultati ottenuti hanno evidenziato il numero di studenti che possono essere considerati analfabeti funzionali nella realtà indagata e la mancanza di politiche pubbliche specifiche per affrontare il problema in questa ultima fase dell’istruzione di base brasiliana.
