In Alisha Learns to Be Resilient, Alisha doesn’t want to go to school. She says school is boring and she wants to stay home. When her mother says she has to go to work and so Alisha must go to school, they walk together down the street, past the grocery store, over the bridge and by the fire station to get there. When she is upset at school, Alisha confides to her teacher that walking to school is scary and makes her sad. Sharing her feelings takes courage and enables her to find a solution. Her story inspires the students and then the community to create a safe passage route so that their walk to school is a joyful and peaceful one. Many young children experience direct or indirect trauma based on their real-life circumstances. Their attitudes and behaviors express the fears and anxieties that are produced by these negative experiences. Alisha is a girl with interests and talents that make her unique. She uses these strengths to build resilience and overcome her challenges. This story will appeal to all children that have ever felt emotionally distraught. It will give them the opportunity to connect with Alisha’s feelings, experiences and acts of resilience. This book will provide the platform to have great conversations with children about confronting challenges and developing resilience. Families, teachers, and librarians will enjoy reading additional stories of self-reliance, strength, and resilience in this timely series which provides an opportunity to open up a dialogue about this important life skill. Author Allen Rosales has a 28-year career in early childhood education. His experience has shown him that family members, teachers, and other educators should engage children in conversations that prepare them for potential negative situations. His new series of picture books provide a platform where children can learn techniques to help them flourish. Furthermore, his stories also show adults that children with less effective behaviors must be treated with equity and fairness. Alisha Learns to Be Resilient, Jorge Learns to Be Resilient, Jamal Learns to Be Resilient and Ian Learns to Be Resilient are available now and would make a great part of your early childhood library collection.
