A República Democrática do Congo (RDC) é um país da África Central com uma população estimada em mais de 100 milhões de habitantes em 2018, três quartos dos quais vivem abaixo do limiar de pobreza. Tal como a maioria dos países da África Central, a população da RDC está fortemente dependente dos recursos florestais para a sua sobrevivência, o que resulta na degradação dos solos e da vegetação natural, bem como na fragmentação dos habitats e na desflorestação (FAO, 2019). Além disso, os recursos naturais enfrentam numerosas pressões antropogénicas, com o impacto do declínio da biodiversidade e efeitos negativos na segurança alimentar. É neste contexto que esta investigação se centra no acesso aos alimentos, na fragilidade alimentar e no seu impacto na conservação da biodiversidade entre os habitantes que vivem perto da reserva da biosfera de Yangambi, na província de Tshopo, na RD Congo. O nosso principal objetivo foi determinar a acessibilidade e a fragilidade alimentar da população que vive perto da Reserva da Biosfera de Yangambi.
