O bem-estar das crianças, especialmente na província rural de Limpopo, na África do Sul, é motivo de preocupação. O projeto teve como objetivo introduzir a monitorização do crescimento nas pré-escolas, onde se encontra a maioria das crianças com menos de cinco anos. A razão por trás disso era que essas crianças não são mais levadas às unidades de saúde para monitorização do crescimento depois de completarem o calendário de imunização de 18 meses. Crianças menores de cinco anos são mais vulneráveis ao desenvolvimento de desnutrição. Portanto, uma vez que o programa de monitorização e promoção do crescimento seja estendido às pré-escolas, a maioria das crianças pode ser alcançada e suas necessidades de crescimento, saúde e nutrição podem ser identificadas e atendidas.
