Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Bereits eine erste Durchsicht der Literatur zum Thema Arbeitsbeziehungen Großbritanniens verdeutlicht, in welchem Ausmaß die Diskussion um Entwicklungen in diesem Bereich von Unsicherheit geprägt ist: Ging es ursprünglich noch 'from Donovan to Durkheim' so wurde später 'from Donovan to where?', 'from Donovan to ... wherever' oder 'Strategic Choice or Muddling Through?', 'Great Britain: Still Muddling Through' und 'from partial collectivism to neo-liberalism to where?' gefragt. Auch die Vielzahl der angebotenen Begriffe für den Gegenstandsbereich dokumentiert Ungewissheit und Vielschichtigkeit im Hinblick auf neueste Entwicklungen: Industrielle Beziehungen (Industrial Relations), Arbeitsbeziehungen (Employment Relations), Arbeitgeber-Arbeitnehmer-Beziehungen (Employer-Employee Relations), Employee Relations. Die Serie der Workplace Industrial Relations Surveys (WIRS) blieb davon nicht unberührt, wurde doch die Umfrage von 1998 in Workplace Employee Relations Survey (WERS) umgetauft. Der jüngst in Mode gekommene Begriff der Employee Relations trägt zwar der gestiegenen Bedeutung der betrieblichen Ebene Rechnung, grenzt indessen das Themengebiet zu wenig ab. Schließlich handelt es sich nicht etwa um Beziehungen der Beschäftigten untereinander, sondern um Beziehungen zu den Beschäftigten. Die beiden Pole der Beziehungen bleiben begrifflich unklar. Der Begriff Industrielle Beziehungen bzw. Industrial Relations unterschlägt gewissermaßen den öffentlichen Sektor und den Bereich der privaten Dienstleistung, indem er zu sehr eine Beschränkung auf das verarbeitende Gewerbe suggeriert, da von ihm, zumindest im britischen Kontext, immer noch auch das Bild von Dampfmaschinen und rauchenden Schloten transportiert wird. Müller-Jentsch favorisiert zwar für den deutschen Kontext den Begriff Industrielle Beziehungen, da es sich 'nicht nur um ein Verhältnis zwischen Arbeitgebern und Arbeitnehmern, sondern auch und vor allem um die Beziehungen zwischen
