W badaniu przeanalizowano wyzwania związane z wdrażaniem polityki edukacji integracyjnej w wybranych szkołach ogólnodostępnych w strefie Sidama w południowej Etiopii. W tym celu w badaniu zastosowano podejście jakościowe, aby uzyskać dogłębny wgląd w sytuację uczestników badania. Zostali oni celowo wybrani z dwóch przykładowych szkół ogólnodostępnych, a mianowicie szkół podstawowych Wojigra i Remeda, które znajdują się w strefie Sidama w Regionie Narodów, Narodowości i Ludów Południowych Etiopii. W wywiadach i dyskusjach w grupach fokusowych wzięło udział 18 nauczycieli, czterech dyrektorów szkół i sześcioro dzieci ze specjalnymi potrzebami. Dane zebrano przy użyciu częściowo ustrukturyzowanego przewodnika wywiadów i dyskusji w grupach fokusowych, aby zidentyfikować tematy i podtematy dotyczące wyzwań związanych z wdrażaniem polityki edukacji integracyjnej. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników zasugerowano, że wdrożenie edukacji integracyjnej w wybranych szkołach ogólnodostępnych jest możliwe, jeśli uwzględni się kilka najważniejszych warunków wstępnych, a wszystkie zainteresowane strony są świadome tych wyzwań i współpracują ze sobą.
