Pasza stanowi istotny element udanej hodowli ryb. Koszty paszy mogą stanowić nawet 70% całkowitych kosztów operacyjnych w akwakulturze. W związku z tym istnieje pilna potrzeba znacznego obniżenia kosztów paszy w celu zwiększenia marży zysku. Wytwarzanie odpadów stanowi poważny problem zarówno w przetwórstwie warzyw, jak i ryb. Ilość wytwarzanych odpadów oraz wynikające z tego skutki dla środowiska wymagają opracowania tanich i skutecznych metod wykorzystania tych odpadów. Niniejsza książka przedstawia wykorzystanie dwóch rodzajów odpadów przetwórczych, a mianowicie odpadów z przetwórstwa warzyw i odpadów z przetwórstwa ryb, ocenionych poprzez włączenie ich do paszy dla tilapii nilowej. Dwie pasze oparte na odpadach przetwórczych zostały ocenione w porównaniu z paszą kontrolną opartą na mączce rybnej i mączce z małż. Pasza z odpadów przetwórczych rybnych i pasza z odpadów warzywnych mogłyby zastąpić paszę opartą na mączce z małż i paszę opartą na mączce rybnej w hodowli tilapii, przynosząc korzyści ekonomiczne bez utraty jakości paszy.
