Wyjazdom kobiet z Zimbabwe towarzyszyły głośne protesty w krajach sąsiednich dotyczące ich zaangażowania w prostytucję. W przeciwieństwie do sensacyjnych opinii pojawiających się w mediach i dyskursie dotyczącym zdrowia publicznego, niniejsza praca podkreśla doświadczenia zimbabweńskich prostytutek w Republice Południowej Afryki, aby zrozumieć, w jaki sposób angażują się one w dyskursy dotyczące prostytucji i seksualności, biorąc pod uwagę normy i obyczaje regulujące seksualność w kontekście afrykańskim. Wyniki pokazują napięcia i sprzeczności, jakie pojawiają się, gdy kobiety negocjują, kwestionują i sprzeciwiają się etykiecie „dziwki'.
