O colapso económico e político do Zimbábue resultou na migração de mulheres e homens para além das suas fronteiras, em busca de melhores oportunidades económicas. A migração das mulheres do Zimbábue foi acompanhada por protestos nos países vizinhos devido ao seu envolvimento no trabalho sexual. Contrariamente às opiniões sensacionalistas da mídia e do discurso da saúde pública, este trabalho destaca as experiências das profissionais do sexo zimbabuenses na África do Sul, para entender como elas se envolvem com os discursos sobre o trabalho sexual e a sexualidade, dadas as normas e costumes que regem a sexualidade no contexto africano. O objetivo deste estudo é trazer à tona as trajetórias, experiências e percepções das profissionais do sexo migrantes em Joanesburgo. Utilizando o feminismo pós-moderno, o estudo é qualitativo e empregou métodos etnográficos para a coleta de dados. A investigação foi realizada no Diplomat Hotel, um hotel transformado em bordel na periferia de Hillbrow, uma zona residencial em Joanesburgo. Utilizando observação e entrevistas informais, o estudo explora as trajetórias e as perceções das profissionais do sexo zimbabuenses sobre o trabalho sexual. Os resultados mostram as tensões e contradições à medida que as mulheres negociam, desafiam e resistem ao rótulo de prostituta.
