HCV zainfekowało ponad 170 milionów osób na całym świecie. Nadal brakuje skutecznej terapii przeciwko HCV i istnieje potrzeba opracowania silnych leków przeciwko wirusowi. W niniejszym badaniu wykorzystaliśmy dwa modele hodowli do zbadania działania leków z grupy fluorochinolonów przeciwko HCV: replikon subgenomowy, który jest zdolny do samodzielnej replikacji w linii komórkowej Huh-8, oraz model hodowli komórek Huh-7, w którym wykorzystuje się komórki transfekowane syntetycznym RNA HCV w celu wytworzenia zakaźnych cząstek HCV. Wykazano również, że fluorochinolony wykazują działanie hamujące wobec niektórych wirusów, prawdopodobnie poprzez oddziaływanie na helikazę wirusową.
