Andererseits ist die Kundensegmentierung die Einteilung von Kunden in verschiedene Gruppen auf der Grundlage gemeinsamer Merkmale und stellt den Hauptbestandteil des CRM dar. CRM ist ein Prozess, mit dem ein Unternehmen die Kundenzufriedenheit maximiert, um die Loyalität zu erhöhen und die Kunden während ihrer gesamten Lebensdauer an das Unternehmen zu binden. Die Hauptziele des CRM bestehen darin, langfristige und profitable Beziehungen zu ausgewählten Kunden aufzubauen und bei jedem Kontakt näher an diese Kunden heranzukommen.
