MRSA wird weltweit sowohl in Krankenhäusern als auch in der Bevölkerung als zunehmend wichtiger Erreger anerkannt. Die mit Abstand wichtigste Reservoir für MRSA und die wichtigste Quelle für die Ausbreitung und nachfolgende Infektionen sind kolonisierte Patienten ohne Anzeichen einer Infektion. Die vorderen Nasenlöcher sind die wichtigsten Kolonisationsstellen. Die zahlreichen und schwerwiegenden Nebenwirkungen häufig verwendeter Antibiotika sowie die Entwicklung von Arzneimittelresistenzen bei den meisten gängigen Antibiotika machen die Suche nach neuen und alternativen antimikrobiellen Wirkstoffen aus anderen Quellen, darunter auch Pflanzen, erforderlich. Die vorliegende Arbeit hatte zum Ziel, das Vorkommen von MRSA-Nasenträgern bei Patienten, Mitarbeitern des Gesundheitswesens und Personen aus der Bevölkerung zu untersuchen und die Wirkung von Tee-Extrakten (schwarz und grün) auf nachgewiesene S. aureus-Isolate zu testen.
