O MRSA tem sido reconhecido como um patógeno cada vez mais importante em ambientes hospitalares e comunitários em todo o mundo. De longe, o reservatório mais importante para o MRSA e a fonte mais importante para a propagação e infecções subsequentes são pacientes colonizados sem sinais de infecção. As narinas anteriores são os locais mais importantes de colonização. Os vários e graves efeitos secundários dos antibióticos comumente usados, juntamente com o desenvolvimento de patógenos humanos resistentes à maioria dos antibióticos comumente usados, exigem a busca por novos e alternativos agentes antimicrobianos de outras fontes, incluindo plantas. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a ocorrência de MRSA nasal entre pacientes, profissionais de saúde e indivíduos da comunidade, juntamente com o teste do efeito de extratos de chá (preto e verde) em isolados de S. aureus detectados.
