William Haughton’s Englishmen For My Money: Or A Woman Will Have Her Will (1917) is a play that tells the story of a wealthy widow, Mistress Flowerdale, who sets her sights on a young, handsome gentleman named Wendoll. Despite his initial reluctance, Wendoll is eventually won over by her wealth and agrees to marry her. However, Wendoll’s former lover, Lucy, is not willing to let him go so easily and sets out to win him back. Along the way, the play explores themes of love, money, and power dynamics between men and women in Elizabethan England. Haughton’s play is considered a classic of the English Renaissance theatre and is still performed today.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
