Wasserstresstoleranz ist ein wichtiger pflanzlicher Schutz für die Aufrechterhaltung der Produktion unter Bedingungen mit geringer Wasserverfügbarkeit, insbesondere in Gebieten wie der semiariden Region, wo die Niederschläge sehr unregelmäßig verteilt sind und die Sommer lang sind. Es wird daher empfohlen, widerstandsfähigere Sorten zu verwenden, die tolerant gegenüber Wasserstress sind und sich nach Dürreperioden besser erholen können. Dieses Buch geht auf eine Studie zurück, in der die Reaktion von Cowpea-Setzlingen auf Wasserstress anhand lokaler Sorten der Leguminose aus der brasilianischen Halbtrockenregion untersucht wurde.
