Considerate un simbolo dell’identità culturale delle popolazioni indigene, le foreste sacre sono fortemente degradate nel Paese Manon. Sono infatti vittime sia dell’espansione urbana che di altre necessità economiche. Oltre alle conseguenze di questa vulnerabilità (difficilmente reversibile), si assiste anche al declino di numerose specie vegetali e animali un tempo rigorosamente protette. Da questa evidenza deriva la seguente domanda di ricerca: qual è l’opinione delle popolazioni indigene riguardo alla vulnerabilità e al futuro delle foreste sacre nel Paese Manon? Lo studio mira a esplorare la diversità biologica delle foreste sacre al fine di individuare uno strumento per mitigarne il declino. Per la raccolta dei dati sono state utilizzate indagini socio-ecologiche tramite questionario e osservazioni dirette. In totale sono state identificate 17 foreste sacre (di cui il 52,94% riservate all’educazione) in 4 villaggi Manon. Questi spazi leggendari hanno beneficiato di uno sfruttamento limitato delle specie vegetali. Ogni foresta identificata è regolata da una carta rituale che va dalla restrizione al divieto totale di accedervi.
