Volpone: Or The Fox is a play written by Ben Jonson in 1605 and published in 1607. The play is set in Venice and follows the story of a cunning and wealthy man named Volpone who pretends to be on his deathbed in order to trick his greedy acquaintances into giving him gifts and money. His plan is successful until a young man named Bonario and his wife Celia become suspicious of Volpone’s true intentions. The play is a satirical commentary on greed and corruption in society, and features a cast of colorful characters including a parasite named Mosca, a merchant named Corvino, and a lawyer named Voltore. This edition of the play was published in 1919 and includes an introduction by Charles Whibley.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
