Bhut Jolokia wurde mit einem Viruskomplex infiziert, der durch vier Viren verursacht wurde, nämlich dem Gurkenmosaikvirus (CMV), dem Kartoffelvirus Y (PVY), dem Erdnuss-Knospennekrosevirus (GBNV) und dem Chili-Blattrollvirus (ChLCV). Die Inzidenz und der Nachweis der Viren wurden auf der Grundlage der Symptomatik, des Insektenvektors, DAS-ELISA und PCR durchgeführt. Zur Bekämpfung des Krankheitskomplexes wurde ein integrierter Ansatz gewählt, der verschiedene Behandlungen wie Saatgutbehandlungen, Behandlungen in der Baumschule und auf dem Hauptfeld in unterschiedlichen Kombinationen umfasste.
