I virus enterici sono virus che infettano il tratto gastrointestinale e si trasmettono per via oro-fecale, causando infezioni enteriche o respiratorie e congiuntiviti. Questi virus possono causare sintomi come nausea, vomito, diarrea e talvolta febbre e vengono eliminati nelle feci delle persone infette. Si trovano anche nelle acque reflue e nei fanghi degli impianti di trattamento delle acque e possono essere trasmessi alle colture degli orti irrigate con queste acque depurate, se queste non rispettano gli standard di qualità per il riutilizzo. Lo scopo di questo libro è quello di far conoscere a studenti e insegnanti: le caratteristiche dei virus enterici trasmessi attraverso l’ambiente, in particolare: enterovirus, adenovirus, virus dell’epatite A ed E, rotavirus, norovirus e astovirus umani, la loro classificazione, il loro potere patogeno e il loro destino. Fornire i principi delle tecniche virologiche classiche e della biologia molecolare per il rilevamento e l’identificazione di questi virus, nonché una sintesi dell’epidemiologia delle malattie virali trasmesse dall’acqua.
