Seen werden für viele Zwecke genutzt und sind daher besonders stark von Nutzung betroffen. Benthische Makroinvertebraten sind die besten Indikatoren für die biologische Bewertung. Die abiotische Umgebung des Gewässers wirkt sich direkt auf die Verbreitung, die Populationsdichte und die Vielfalt der benthischen Makroinvertebratengemeinschaft aus. Die benthische Fauna ist insbesondere für die Fischerei von großer Bedeutung, da sie selbst als Nahrung für Bodenfresser dient. Das vorliegende Projekt befasst sich mit der Naturgeschichte einiger dieser aquatischen Arten und liefert Erkenntnisse zum Verständnis der Rolle benthischer Makroinvertebraten bei der Beurteilung der Wasserqualität und der Gesundheit aquatischer Ökosysteme.
