Die digitale PCR ist eine neue Technik zum Nachweis und zur Quantifizierung von Nukleinsäuren, die eine Ersatzmethode für die herkömmliche quantitative Echtzeit-PCR zur absoluten Quantifizierung und zum Nachweis seltener Allele darstellt. Bei der digitalen PCR wird eine DNA- oder cDNA-Probe in mehrere einzelne, parallele PCR-Reaktionen aufgeteilt; einige dieser Reaktionen enthalten das Zielmolekül (positiv), andere nicht (negativ).
