Municipal solid waste (MSW) creates serious environmental and public health problems, especially in rapidly urbanizing areas. Traditional disposal methods such as landfilling and incineration cause land scarcity, emissions, and groundwater pollution. This study demonstrates vermicomposting as a sustainable solution for treating biodegradable MSW. Using Perionyx excavatus (Indian Blue Worms), segregated household organic waste was processed in a pilot-scale system. The results showed significant waste reduction and production of nutrient-rich vermicompost, highlighting vermicomposting as an effective, low-cost approach for decentralized waste management and waste valorization.
