''Venice Preserved Or A Plot Discovered: A Tragedy'' is a play written by Thomas Otway and first published in 1682. The play is set in Venice during the 17th century and revolves around a group of conspirators who plan to overthrow the ruling council and establish a republic. The main characters are Jaffier, a young Venetian nobleman who is torn between his loyalty to the ruling council and his love for Belvidera, the daughter of one of the conspirators; Pierre, the leader of the conspiracy; and Antonio, a senator who is sympathetic to the conspirators’ cause. As the plot unfolds, the characters are forced to make difficult choices and face the consequences of their actions. The play explores themes of love, loyalty, betrayal, and political intrigue.
