Il existe un problème qui définira les contours de ce siècle de manière plus dramatique que tout autre, à savoir la menace urgente que représente le changement du régime des précipitations, qui met en péril les ressources humaines et naturelles. Le Pakistan est un pays agricole dont l’économie dépend de l’agriculture. Parmi toutes les provinces, le Pendjab est la plus agricole, où l’on cultive le coton, le riz et le blé. Mais dans le nord et certaines parties du sud de la province, le rendement du blé dépend entièrement des précipitations. Le régime des précipitations est donc étroitement lié au rendement agricole. Il est donc urgent de comprendre le comportement spatial et temporel des précipitations dans la province.
